I started riding in utero and horses carried me through my youth. I competed through Preliminary with the USEA and received my HA rating from the USPC in 1999. Capping off my mounted career with a short stint performing aboard Lipizzaners, I settled into trying to give back a piece of all that horses had given me. I was very involved with horses used in mental health work for a while and loved it! But after the unexpected loss of my heart horse in 2011 and the senior foster mares from our local rescue that were meant to fill her field, I found myself being swept into rescue work. It's been 7 years that I've toiled in this underrated part of the horse industry. I'm convinced that organizations like VEWS are a critical part to giving all of us horse folks the social license to continue operating. I believe there is a magic between horses and humans and I am grateful that VEWS is providing that opportunity for both horses and humans alike.
