VEWS kicked off the New Year on January 5 with a very cold but informative volunteer education event, featuring our trainer, Ashley, and our OTTB mare Piper. Volunteers learned how Ashley initially assesses a horse under saddle. It was Piper's first ride at VEWS. We had no idea how it would go due to strong winds and the frigid temps, but WOW! Piper proved to be a lovely, well mannered ride as Ashley took her around at the walk and trot with just halter and lead rope! After a question and answer session, volunteers left with a better understanding of how our horses are prepared for their future homes.
