VEWS OWNER SURRENDER
-
VEWS accepts owner-surrended horses on a case-by-case basis. Final determination is made by our Executive Director
-
VEWS is a rescue and not a sanctuary; therefore we accept horses that have a good likelihood of being rehomed. Generally, we do not accept:
-
Feral or untamed horses
-
Yearlings or younger
-
Stallions
-
Horses 25 years old or older
-
-
We may not always have room to immediately accept surrendered horses. In this case, the Executive Director can provide guidance/assistance by:
-
Placing the horse on our waiting list
-
Exploring the possibility of a direct owner-to-owner transfers within VEWS’ network of potential adopters
-
Providing contact information for other local equine rescues or sanctuaries
-
Referring the owner to Virginia Partnership Direct Placement Program
-
-
Horses accepted by VEWS as owner surrenders must arrive with a current Coggins, as well as current vet records and farrier history
-
The owner must complete the Pre-Assessment Info Form, found here on the website, as well as the VEWS Donation Agreement, which will be provided, prior to transfer of the horse
-
While a monetary donation is not required, we do appreciate a donation that aids us in our rescue work
